The course will provide definitions and insights into the various types of special needs. It will help especially parents to know what to look for and how to get help if they suspect that their child may need special educational services. The course covers the following areas of special needs:
Cognitive
Emotional and social
Behavioral
The lessons will allow the student to explore the possible causes of the special need, the characteristics of the child with the special need or signs to look for and possible strategies to support the child with the special need,

The course covers the basics of SEL - what it is; why it is important in schools and in the home today.
It also provides information on the concept of Emotional Intelligence and how it affects the learning and basic functioning.
Participants will understand the connection between emotions, learning and how behavior patterns develop and therefore how to remove the emotional blocks to learning. This combines some basic aspects of counseling in the classroom and in the home, but it goes beyond that. Focus will be on creating a supportive, nurturing, non-threatening environment to enhance learning.
